This time, Tom Hardy takes over for Gibson as the very damaged road warrior Max Rockatansky. This film is not a reboot, it's he fourth film of Miller's Mad Max franchise.
George Miller announced that that filming of Fury Road, it was announce that Mel Gibson would return as Mad Max but Tom Hardy had been sign to the project since 2009. Although, Mel Gibson would not be in the film, it would because George Miller was looking for a different route for the franchise. George Miller wanted to tell a linear story and Fury Road features few digital effects and even less dialogue.
